Horse Movement and Gaits by Deborah K. White is a CD-Rom designed to help you identify and analyze various gaits. Each gait is shown as a series of footfall patterns, as hoof-beat sounds, in slides, in a slow-motion video, and in a full-speed video. The full-speed version may be stopped and started so you can view frame by frame. The main menu lists:
This CD was designed to teach students in the Equine Science Program at Southern Illinois University, and is well organized and thorough. When you click on "stride elements," for example, you are first shown how a horse generates movement, then you are taken step-by-step through the four phases of limb movement: impact, stance, thrust, and flight. Each phase is isolated, leaving no doubt about what you are being shown. This CD is available for either Windows or Mac, so don't forget to specify which one you want. The cost is $20.00 postpaid from Wind Shadow Media, 805 Breen Drive, Champaign, IL 61820, 217-398-4533, wsmp@pdnt.com. Reviews by Gail Damerow, RURAL HERITAGE editor. |
