Problems & Fixes

Starting "Horse Movement and Gaits" on Windows XP

Some people are having trouble getting the second edition of "Horse Movement and Gaits" to run on Windows XP. They receive a message similar to "You need 323 kb of virtual memory to run this program" when the program should be starting. One fix seems to be closing out the many programs running in the background of the computer. Hit ctrl-alt-del, highlight a program, then click on 'End Task.' Repeat until all the programs EXCEPT 'Explorer' and 'Systray' are gone from the list.

If the above fix does not work, then click on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. Click on System, then on the Performance tab, then on the Virtual Memory button near the bottom. Click on 'Let me specify my own virtual memory settings' and then increase the minimum value to meet or exceed the amount needed to run the Gaits CD-ROM. I'd recommend eventually setting the virtual memory settings back to 'automatic.'

Video Not Running

There is one common problem people are having. When they go through the CD-ROM, no video is shown and an error message may be given. What you need to do is install Quicktime.

In Windows:
When you insert the CD-ROM, a menu should come up. On this menu is a section called 'install' with three Quicktime buttons. Follow the instructions on the menu to install Quicktime.

On a Macintosh:
There is a folder called 'Quicktime' on the CD-ROM. Click on the .exe file in that folder and Quicktime will be installed.

Starting "A Guide to Horse Nutrition"

Some Windows computers are evidently having trouble starting "A Guide to Horse Nutrition" from the Menu that automatically appears when the CD-ROM is inserted into its drive. To easily fix this problem, click on the Menu's 'exit' buton. (Note: Replace the "D" in the following examples with the letter of your CD-ROM drive.)

If you are using Windows 3.1, go to the Program Manager, select File from the menu, then Run, and type: D:\Nutrit3.exe.

If you are using Windows 95/98/NT, go to the Start menu and select Run, and type: D:\Nutritn.exe.
